The Intersections of Peace

The Real Stories of Peace: The Intersections of Peace.

Meet Le from Cambodia. Le is an expert in gender and minorities.

‘At first, it was challenging for me as a young minority woman navigating life in the mainstream…I was not taken seriously because of my identity.’

Growing up in a minority village, where education for women was often dismissed, she defied the odds and became a relentless advocate for those who, like her, have faced multiple layers of marginalisation.

From a young age, Le was determined to challenge the status quo.

‘I grew up hearing that women belong in the kitchen and it infuriated me. It was unfair and I knew I had to do something.’

Her journey — from a village where dreams were stifled to a world of education and empowerment— mirrors the struggles of countless women and girls she now fights for.

‘[Women and girls] are discriminated against, told to quit school, or not able to participate in any other social activities just because of their minority identities.’

Le has become a specialist in gender and minorities. She led Women Peace Makers’ gender and peacebuilding intersectionality projects, and is now a representative for minority women.

Le’s work goes beyond advocacy; she’s amplifying the voices of the unheard. Through ground-breaking publications, artistic projects, and dialogues she has created platforms for minority women and girls to share their stories. As the co-author of pioneering books that delve into the lived experiences of girls from minority communities in Cambodia, Le is ensuring their challenges and dreams are not just seen but realised.

Le is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict and is spending a summer with Interpeace in the Kenya Programme focusing on marginalised communities, and actively participated in various civic engagement programs.

‘Through work with diverse communities, I find myself as diverse as the communities I represent. My dream is to see the voices of minority communities being heard and engaged with at local and international levels.’

For Le, peace starts with freedom, diversity and inclusion.
